The Lightning Ridge Discovery Tour is a day of discovery divided into morning and afternoon sessions. We will pick you up from your accommodation then over the course of the morning, transport you on a journey through time and around the opal fields. Lunch is at your leisure: we will collect you an hour later to continue with the afternoon's activities; or, if you prefer, ask us to supply lunch so you don't have to think about anything at all. At the end of the day, after a luxurious soak in the Hot Artesian Pools, you will be returned to your abode. You have nothing to do but enjoy! See below for details of the day's activities and don't hesitate to tell us if you have your heart set on seeing something that doesn't appear on the itinerary.

Morning
The morning leg of the tour includes all of the activities on our famous Black Opal Tour, including Amigo's Castle, the Artesian Bore Baths, opal fossicking, underground at the Walk-in-Mine, entry to the quirky Astronomers Monument, Lunatic Hill open cut, Devonshire tea, Fred Bodel's place, life around the miners' camps and the pleasure of seeing magnificent black and crystal opal, opal clay pottery, opal jewellery and a demonstration of opal cutting at the historic Platform 1 red rattler train carriage.
As always, we entrust you to friendly, experienced guides who know and love Lightning Ridge.
Visit Bevan's Cactus Nursery with over 200 species of cactus, one of the largest collections in the Southern Hemisphere - some plants are over 100 years old!
Lunch
Have an hour to find your own lunch and do some shopping, or let us provide you with a fresh, delicious and affordable meal - please specify your preference when you book your tour.
Afternoon
Visit the popular Kangaroo Hill tourist centre and step back in time to see local memorabilia, art and crafts, rock and mineral specimens, fossils and meteorites plus a unique blacksmith's shop!
Experience the Black Queen on the road to Bankrupt Miners Avenue. The Black Queen truly is one of those magical places you stumble onto only once in a lifetime.
Finish the day with a relaxing soak in the Hot Artesian Pools. Make sure you bring your swimmers and a towel. Bring your worries too, so you can soak them away!

A booking of 10 passengers is required, so if you're travelling in a smaller party, why not try to make up a group with other visitors staying in your motel or caravan park?
